The Land Rover Defender
The Defender that we know and love was effectively introduced in 1983, though the actual Defender name was introduced later on in 1991, when the Discovery was launched.
The 110 was introduced first in 1983, with the 90 following a year later.
Its history can be traced back to 1948 when the Series 1 was introduced.
It took over from the Series 3 with multiple vast improvements, delivering a significantly more capable and refined vehicle.
The Defender has been produced in a variety of body styles and sizes, and has become one of the most popular and iconic off-road vehicles in history.
It was highly successful from the start and went on to become one of the most iconic and beloved 4x4 vehicles of all time.
Over the years the Defender evolved, though it maintained its core identity, introducing uprated brakes, improved engine and gearbox options, and refreshed interior features.
It has been used by military, public, and private entities across the globe, and is famous for its durability, ruggedness, and capability in extreme off-road conditions.
In 1993 Land Rover decided it was time to take the Defender to the US after the success of the Range Rover since 1987, they felt it could offer a more upmarket alternative to the popular Jeep Wrangler targeting adventurous buyers.
It was eventually discontinued globally in 2016 after 33 years in production, and it’s claimed that more 75% of the Defender’s ever produced are still in action around the world.
This Land Rover
Delivered new by Land Rover Espana SLU and first registered to the Balearic Islands, Spain on 10/02/1993.
A three owner vehicle that would later be relocated to Barcelona in 2008.
The vehicle has since being exported to North America earlier this year and is now offered with a clean Pennsylvanian title.
Prior to the vehicle's export to the US, the Defender had received a comprehensive body restoration and mechanical overhaul along with a fully reupholstered interior.
The body restoration included new front wings, aluminium sills, reskinned doors to eliminate future galvanic corrosion along with a new rear door.
The body was completely repainted in Audi’s Nardo Grey, a great contemporary twist on Land Rover’s Welsh Grey.
Upon reassembly, all fixings have been replaced with stainless steel, and new gaskets, seals and rubbers fitted throughout.
The vehicle presents in fabulous condition.
In addition the vehicle is fitted out with a selection of desirable accessories including: KBX front grill and light surrounds, exterior LED lights and headlights, uprated steering damper, 2 inch lift kit, Sawtooth wheels fitted with BF Goodrich Mud Terrain tyres, tubular roof rack and ladder, NAS rear step, Fire and Ice style side steps and a custom-made front bumper with concealed winch mount and LED running lights.
Internally, the vehicle’s headliner has been re-trimmed in synthetic suede, and the seats have been replaced with premium perforated leatherette with white stitching for both front and second rows.
For convenience, a Sony 9” Android and Apple CarPlay head unit has been fitted with underdash speakers.
Mechanically, the vehicle’s had a host of preventative maintenance carried out, this has included a replacement clutch, rebuilt Garrett turbo charger, timing belt and tensioner, rebuilt alternator and starter motor, replacement rear differential bearings, propshaft UJ’s, wheel bearings, new track rod ends, resealed hubs.
The outcome is a thoroughly restored and modernised Defender that holds a big road presence and attracts a host of attention wherever it goes.
