Summary Performs sterile diagnostic, radiographic (IR), embolic, therapeutic procedures, and non-vascular interventional radiographic procedures and administers contrast agents at a technical level.
Recognizes and responds to changes in patient condition that could lead to serious complications and provides immediate interventions, as required.
Operates and manages complex medical equipment and assists physicians in the management of the patient.
Takes call as rotated/assigned and responds (in hospital) within 30 minutes.
Provides safe care and processing of patients ranging in age from newborn to geriatric.
Works in a hospital facility that offers full hospital services.
Provides direct patient care to high acuity patients encompassing emergency, inpatient and outpatient classes supporting up to and including trauma and ICU.
Job Duties Provides post procedure care to the patient (includes holding pressure as well as cleaning, suturing, and bandaging of procedure site).
Produces images of diagnostic quality.
Processes and prepares images for interpretation by the radiologist, labeled properly.
Corrects vessel, side, or product used label.
Acts as a scrub assistant assisting the physician during interventional procedures under fluoroscopy while maintaining a sterile technique.
Prepares and administers contrast, as prescribed, based on approved protocol under the supervision of the Radiologist.
Assists physician in the performance of specialized procedures including sterile technique.
Verifies proper injection settings, checks connections between catheters and injectors, and injects contrast under physician supervision.
Sets up sterile tray.
Preps patient for exam by grooming and/or prepping appropriate area.
Secures and maintains supplies.
Ensures room is prepped and necessary supplies and equipment are in room, prepared for radiologist.
Shows patient's name brought up on xray and US equipment.
Positions patient on table for procedure.
Assumes responsibility for proper and efficient operation of all equipment used.
Reports malfunction and the need for adjustment and/or repairs to Clinical Engineering and the Radiology Manager.
Keeps sterile and clean environment in IR lab and procedure rooms.
Assumes responsibility for cleanliness and sanitation of the immediate work area.
Does light housekeeping.
Maintains orderliness.
Assumes responsibility and accountability for his/her own safety and the safety of others.
Documents LMP, fluoro time, radiologist, antibodies, and staff involved in the case; estimated blood loss; and mGy.
Ensures appropriate exams are ordered and attached to the correct patient within 30 minutes after procedure.
Ensures coordination of daily work duties within the team; coordinates timing of exams within department guidelines.
Ensures correct patient supplies are charged.
Obtains proper patient information and provides labs, signs, symptoms, and history.
Minimum Qualifications Technical School Diploma Radiology Ability to possess a high degree of maturity and exercise individual judgment in working with patients, equipment, and personnel that are involved in vascular interventional exams.
Ability to deal effectively and ethically with medical and confidential information relating to patients, families, physicians, and nursing personnel.
Must maintain a professional relationship with co-workers and medical staff.
Must be able to work in stressful situations.
ARRT - American Registry of Radiologic Technologists and Health Services\BCLS - Basic Life Support within 90 Days and Preferred Qualifications Associate's Degree ARRT - American Registry of Radiologic Technologists Vascular Interventional Physical Demands Lift and carry 40-50 lbs.
Examples: Push/pull patients on bed, stretcher (requires 29 lbs.
push force), lateral transfers up to 50 lbs.

Frequent to continuous standing/walking.
Patient transporters can walk 8-10 miles per shift.
*Patient care providers may be required to perform activities specific to their role including kneeling, bending, squatting and performing CPR.
